Project History


Novi Meadows Elementary School - This school remodeling project possessed a shorten schedule, which required our shop to produce the necessary steel at an accelerated rate, all the while maintaining our high quality standards. The main structure a new exterior canopy at the 6th Grade Entrance, constructed of a series of HSS tubes of various sizes, radius plates (for sign) and cell deck (all members galvanized). The interior work scope comprised of a 5 skylight support frames and 8 solar tube support frames, all out of structural steel angles. At the 5th Grade loading dock we fabricated and installed a 2-line galvanized guardrail system.



The Becker Brewery - Located in downtown Brighton, Mi. in a circa 1860’s historic building. Once served as a train station will soon become a micro brew pub. The exterior brick were preserved, while all the interior wood framing was replaced by steel framing. Despite routine fabrication unique challenges were abundant in the field, dealing with a 140 year old building. Including: field measuring the existing building prior to fabrication, material handling & delivery and erection within an existing envelope.

Bloomfield Hills School - A wide verity of materials and structures were required on this fast paced project which spanned 6 schools. Our highly skilled shop needed to fabricate: steel (galvanized), aluminum (anodized) and stainless steel (brushed) railing systems. The scope of work also included the demo of an existing canopy and fabrication & erection of two others and a large RTU frame.

Gilbert Residence - An expanding assisted living facility in Ypsilanti, Mi. contract us to fabricate and erect the slab supporting steel framing using w18x40 beams and 2” VLI Comp Deck. We also provided: 1” E Roof Deck, HSS 4x4 porch columns, aluminum railings systems and a Lapeyre stair.

Crown Plaza Hotel - Formally the Ponchartrian, situated in downtown Detroit, Mi contracted us to provide and erect an exterior chiller platform and screen wall. As with all mechanical equipment support framing, attention to detail is curtail in providing a structure that will provide the unit with a rigid and stable platform for years to come. Surrounding the chiller is a screen wall that presents camouflage to the casual eye.

Eastland Middle School - A two year, four phase project with a scope of work that comprises of a broad array of structure and miscellaneous steel needs. Our work scope consists of: an entrance canopy / vestibule, 7 RTU support frames, dozens of steel

masonry lentils, roof infill in many locations and new girt lines around the existing gym.

Bedrock Z-Parking Decks - Our main contribution to these two pre-cast parking decks is the 4 stair tower 9-line guardrail (galvanized) with a stainless steel grab rail. We also provided structural steel in the form of two entrance canopies and divider tubes (HHS 12x4) in both double car elevator shafts. Included in the miscellaneous package are numerous wire mesh panels, bollards, pipe guards, safety roof davits and traffic sign support frames.

DMC South Campus Parking Deck & Energy Center - A large pre-cast parking deck with two stair towers and a large Energy Center. The Energy Center is supported by a network of w24x117’s and w14x90’s. Additionally the Energy Center required a wide verity of misc steel: an access ladder, a ship’s ladder, small landing platforms with short stairs & guard rail systems, door / louver support frames (HSS 6x6) and wire mesh panels. In the parking deck we provided 18 floors worth of wire mesh filled guardrail (galvanized) and a stainless steel grab rail in the two stair towers. Pipe guards, bollards, lentils (for mason), screen wall and stack house enclosure rounds out the miscellaneous steel needs in the parking deck.


Airport High School Expansion - This expanding high school added entire wing to their footprint. We provided and erected the joists and decking. In addition to the structural steel we fabricated and installed an aluminum roof ladder and movable root-top guardrail surrounding the new RTU.

Broderick Tower - A massive undertaking of a 34 floor renovation in downtown Detroit. This challenging project in this neglected gem required us to utilize many our fabricating, material handling and erecting talents. The project highlights including but are not limited to: Multi Floor Spirals Stairs, Access ladders, 8 floors of Egress Stairs, Access Stairs and a wide

verity of Structural Steel Framing.

NSO Bell Building - A colossal overhaul of the neglected former Michigan Bell Telephone Headquarters was transformed into the vibrant control center of the Neighborhood Service Organization. Our contribution to the project was focused around the entrance canopies, egress stair tower, ship’s ladder and numerous caged roof-ladders.

Pearl Harbor Memorial Bus & Shuttle Shelters - These two shelters on the memorial grounds provide shade to patrons from all over the world, visiting the SS Arizona and SS Missouri. All the steel used, which included HSS 8x4, HSS 6x2, HSS 8x4, 8”STD 40 pipe columns and decking, was fabricated, rolled, galvanized and shipped from Detroit to Hawaii to be erected by Nelson Iron Works.

Urban ScienceThis job located high in Renaissance Center’s main tower incorporated 4 sets of Architectural stairs and internal support steel for the tenants build out finishes. The main switch back-stair features a guardrail system with an unorthodox picket pattern.


Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital Mechanical Equipment Penthouse - This project took place on the roof of an existing mechanical building adjacent to cancer wing of the hospital. Construction consisted of HSS 6x6 columns and w12x26 beams, providing the backbone of the new HVAC Penthouse.

CMU Event Center - Is an example of our ability to produce a large volume of steel in a short period of time. The bulk of the project was fabricating the bent plate risers used to support the auditorium seating. In addition and equally important to the super-structure was the structural steel supporting the bent plate framing. The CMU Event Center is used for: sporting events, concerts and other speaking engagements.

Oakland Community College, Royal Oak Campus, Stage AdditionOCC extend their stage causing the need for additional guardrails around the arced seating perimeter. The rails made from bent bar stock with a powder coat finish, are removable and fabricated to blend in with the existing railing system.

Metro Detroit Airport Blue Deck Screen wall - The screen wall frame built using 3” & 4” standard schedule 40 pipes required very tight fabricating tolerances. This is due to the fact that the pipe framing, after powder coating and installation, supports architectural glass panels (provided by others).

U of M Emergency Room Expansion - This multi faceted and challenging project took place in the heart of the hospital. We provided framing and support to all of the newly install duct-work, spanning numerous floors as well as inside & outside, ultimately allowing the hospital to breath in a more efficient manner.

Washtenaw Community College Education Center - This 3 phased LEED compliant project’s crowning jewel was the two tiered Student Recreation Center. A verity of wide flange beams, HSS columns and joists provided the support for the Mezzanine and roof with a large skylight. The Mezzanine is accessible by a wheelchair lift and a long set of stairs with mesh paneled guardrail.
